Mother Dirt

Why It’s Content

Mother Dirt are the leaders in developing products that restore and nurture the skin biome. To do this, the team developed strict criteria for ingredient selection, formulation, packaging, and manufacturing. Using Ammonia Oxidizing Bacteria (AOB) as the core measurement for testing biome-friendliness, they have formulated products that are friendly to AOB, and other delicate microorganisms of the biome. AOB convert irritating components of our sweat (ammonia & urea) and turn them into by-products that bring benefits to the skin (Nitrite and Nitric Oxide). Nitrite helps keep bad bacteria in check and Nitric Oxide is an antioxidant that helps calm and soothe the skin. This action can help restore balance to the skin's ecosystem and in turn reduce dependence on conventional products like soaps, moisturisers, and deodorants. Historically, AOB would have populated our skin microbiome naturally, acting as peacekeepers for the microbial community, but widespread use of personal care products wiped them out. By applying them back to your skin, you are restoring your skin to a native, healthy state.

Using a patent-pending assay to screen all the ingredients and the final formula for AOBs, Mother Dirt products nurture and feed a living ecosystem, without ingredients such as preservatives. All products come with an expiration date that's counted in weeks, not years. The packaging is selected for maximal protection of the product inside. Mother Dirt include an expiration date on each product so that you know when to discard them. (See individual products for details). All products are botanically-sourced, biodegradable and environmentally sustainable. Products are tested to make sure no unwanted chemicals including fragrance, heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic), 1,4 dioxane, Bisphenol A (BPA), nitrosamines, phthalates and parabens are present in the end product. This is certified by ‘Made Safe’ who have verified that the AO+ Mist is free of any chemicals known to harm human health or the environment. Mother Dirt is made in the USA but is register within the EU meaning it has met requirements including no animal testing. Read More.
